Hello everyone im new to woodsbuggy. Ive been building my buggy 2 years in feb. I have some older pics but i couldnt figure out how to load them. But i have a link to my photobucket site. I have actually redone the whole rearend scince the pics i have the motor and tranny in. I was thinking about goin with power steering anyone got any ideas on how to do this with a V.W. Welcome to the Board and nice Buggy. I'm in the process of installing Power steering on my new Rail project. I dont have any pics as of yet however I can tell you what I have done. First off there are basically 2 systems to use. First and the better way to go is a Servo/Ram setup. You install a servo (controls the fluid path to the ram) in the steering shaft. Then a double action Ram is connected from your frame to the rack slider. Because I have a Porche style cooling system I could not mount the Pump on the motor so I opted for a frame mounting system. The second system is with a Torque generator. This system is much simpler than a servo/ram however your rack takes all the abuse. The torque generator mounts in the steering shaft like the servo however it preforms both functions. The cheapest place to get the parts is on Ebay. I have about $600.00 ito mine versue a new system costing from 1500 to $2000.00. Type in "sweet power" at the search line. Good luck and keep us posted |

Thanks for the welcome. I remember a few names from dune-buggy.com. I will have some updated pics up this weekend its actually starting to look like something. The trailing arms in the pic have been all redone i built a custom torsion. I also went with Drive axles instead of cv's i know some people on here will not like that, but everyone i talk to that has them loves them. Also i need them for the ride height im gonna have..Also how do i post pics on here?? |

If you go to the pictures and video topic section it is described in the first post how to post pictures. A lot of people use photobucket. I also remember your build from dune-buggy.com, glad to see some updates on this site. Just a word of caution on the drive axles they have been causing a major uproar on www.glamisdunes.com. It seems the splined shafts bind under load and won't allow the wheel to plunge or compress causing frame and transmission failure. There are a lot of upset people with broken frames and transmissions. I love the idea of drive axles but never liked the price. You may want to do some more research with the new problems popping up. |

Since you have a photobucket.com account open that up and this website up and under you pic there should be four url`s to click on,left click on the botton one (img) then pull this page up and when postin a topic right click and click on paste and its done.If that doesnt work let me know and I can do it for you. aaron |

I have read alot about these drive axles. Lots of good and bad. Mainly bad in V8 high horsepower and torque. Lots of good in vw lower horses and torque. Actually i have not found a single complaint from anyone with a vw buggie. buggies that have a high ride height Which makes a cv angle that is not acceptable are running these axles with no problems. One of the main things on these axles is you have to have extra plunge i believe at full suspension compression. I did lots of research and definately found these axles to be better (In my situation). But believe me if these do not work for me i will raise hell and go on a one man mission to end all drive axle production lol... |
