where do i get through rods and will stock work ok for now till i get some money saved up?? or how exspencive is it to do this |

Stock kingpin works great for me, and about 100 people I know! Dont even worry with the high dollar shocks. Do your best to keep the buggy light as safety will allow. (If you go heavy, all suspension will need to be beefed, then stock springs wont cut it anymore, etc. etc., and it gets exponentially expensive!) Get you some stock ones from Autojunk w/ a lifetime warranty, and take 'em back when needed. They are cheap, and who cares if they blow out every year. Only takes a minute to swap 'em and front end will ride better w/o stiff shocks. Might try to get you some 1x2 front arms though, you wouldn't believe the difference in ride! Be sure to use stock offset rims and you're gold! Larry |

im running spindal mount rims in the front i dont know what stock offset is and i guse ill just run stock KP for now and go to loner arms latter... |

IDK what it is either, I just blast and powdercoat stock rims. The longer arms will cause a little more droop when you get them. They put more levereage on the springs. You can just cut and turn the center of your beam 1/4" to get it back. You'll never have huge clearance and soft ride in the front with a stock based set up, but who needs it when you can goose it and carry the front end at will!!

Larrys right aftermarket suspension parts dont come cheap,but you can find a deal on ebay on coil overs,all you need is some 9 in stroke coil overs from a late model race car,the racers dont run them long before they swap out,you can pick them up fairly cheap when you decide to go that route,and all through rod is a long piece of all thread |

Tanner, What kind of riding do you expect to do mostly? General trail riding? A stock king pin set-up will do for now. I know guys that use the whole complete stock front end and have been running the same front for years. I used to use a stock set-up for a long time. Keep it greased and it will be fine. It WILL have it's limitations. You can only beat on it so hard before something will bend. There are things you can do to it to make it stronger. Those things can be done as you go along. Stock king pin is a great place to start. You will be surprised how tough those front ends really are. Like Larry said, cheap shocks are the way to go on a stock front end. Go to Advance or Auto Zone and get some with a lifetime warranty. Change them out when needed. Roy |

Also Tanner that super beetle parts car has a ball joint front end. I have seen lots of them in the woods. The beams are spaced different from a king pin . Use what you have. Modify later. Once you see how much you are going to beat on one you can adjust.

I always thought that a super beetle had a strut front end, not ball joint...hmmm...I guess you learn something every day. |

some super beetles had strut,some balljoint,,early ones had balljoint and flat glass windshield. Tanner,,,yours is 72 model right? is it ball joint? sorry for the confusion

my 71 and 72 super had struts maybe someone changed the vin on the body |
