Hey folks! I'm not sure if this question belongs here, but I figure this topic gets the most attention so here goes... I'm picking up the steel tonight for my buggy trailer. I'm planning to build it over the weekend starting tonight. Instead of the old tried and true "T" trailer, I'm gonna build one that has the "runners" for the front tires. My question is, where do I want the rear buggy tires to ride in relationship to the trailer axle? On my sketches I've got the front edge of the buggy tires being just behind or even with the trailer axle. Will this be far enough forward, or should I plan to center the buggy tires right over the axle? I'd like to keep it as far back as possible to keep weight off the tongue, but don't want a bad case of the "whips". I picked up a free drop axle that I'm using, just need to cut and widen it. I'll have all my steel tonight, so I'm hoping for some quik replies. Thanks y'all!! -Steve |

Mad Mikes T- trailer is probly the best one I've seen. He positioned the axle right under the torsion. He pulls with a S-10 all the time. Pm him maby he has pics. Here is the one I was goin to copy. [img][img]http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd87/jem203/270971.jpg[/img] [/img]

that trailer there is jus about perfect,its light weight,and thats where u want ur back tires,close to the trailer tires |

this is a converted T trailer, the rear tires "drop in" and fit in between the trailer tires, good tongue weight and real easy to load!

This is my trailer. Almost like a T trailer but with a full floor. 16' from tip to tongue. Buggy back wheels sit right at the back of the deck.

ky-bc... That's just like how I've got mine sketched out. The buggy tires will drop in and up against the trailer axle, right between the trailer tires. I was gonna do my front a little different, but that's only because I'm using what steel I already have, plus some that I picked up for free. Steve, I hauled my buggy just like that picture on my other trailer. The buggy tires were snugged up against the trailer fenders and I couldn't get over 55mph without tail-whip. My other trailer is tandom axle, so maybe that's the difference... I dunno. When I swapped the buggy wheels for some narrow ones I was able to pull it up about another foot and it rode great. That's fine, but I'm already tired of unloading, changing rear wheels, riding, changing rear wheels again, loading up, etc, you get my point, I'm lazy! Turbo, you probably get away with being so far back on the trailer since you've got the extra weight of a toolbox on the frontend. I like the idea of having a trailer to use for more than one purpose. In my case, the buggy is getting it's own trailer. I guess that's ok since I'll have very little in it not counting my time. Oh yeah, I really like the little stubby ramps on the back. Are they fixed, or do they pull out? (hard to tell in pic) I've put a little thought into something similar, some short fixed ramps. As long as they don't drag. I appreciate the help from everyone. I probably won't be at this stage in my building til tomorrow night or so. My wife just informed me that I've got to take her to Nashville tomorrow afternoon (Opry Mills  ) Another wasted afternoon, but at least I'll be able to roam around Harbour Freight for awhile.

Heres a pic of my trailer, it tows nicely. It bounces a little when its not loaded but its worked well for me for years now.

I am going to build one. I am going to put the front wheels on runners and the back wheels behind the axle, just to keep it narrow. |

Yeah it actually pulls pretty good loaded that way. I don't have any pics with the buggy on it. Little stubby ramps need to be a touch longer though. Can't get on the trailer with those that's why the alum. mower ramps are laying there. Think about a little fold up extension so I don't have to fool with the mower ramps. Can hop the buggy off the trailer though and it don't bottom on the chassis........ |

The last time it may have just been a bad tire but the spare I carried was the wrong one. I want to make it work because it will not only save space and fuel, but it will be nice to be able to back it in the shop and leave the buggy on the trailer. This time I am going to buy a good axle to start with. Most guys don't put as many miles on a trai |

Here is what I have done with my old T trailer that is converted with front runners. 
It pulls great is a little tongue heavy but within reason though. Most of the time I don't even know thats its behind me. I wish that I would have moved the wheels forward about a foot. The Wild Kids |

My tires on the buggy are behind the trailer axel. The buggy tires rest on the fenders. I have 2 trailers like this and they pull great single or in tandem. New Year |

Ok, I said I was building this trailer in January. I did start on it, but it was put on the back burner for whatever reasons. I appreciate all the pics and the ideas. Here's what I've come up with. I think it turned out pretty decent especially since I mostly used steel I had laying around and some I picked up for free. It looks better in person, plus the paint is still fresh and shiny! I used a drop axle, so no need for ramps. I also designed it so the rear of the trailer (axle back) sits level with the ground and the front (axle forward) climbs up to the hitch. To my surprise, it actually works, and works good! I'm really proud of how it turned out. I finished it around midnight last night. Pulled it to work this morning for a test run before the haul to D&K tomorrow. It pulls good with just a little vibe at 55, and smooth as glass at 70 on the freeway. I blame the vibe on the old tires that came off my wife's old car. It also will fit in my shop doors with about an inch to spare on each side. Now I hope it holds up for the real test tmrw...
