Today's rant is about "ripoffs". There are at least three
kinds of "ripoffs".
1) If I pay retail price for new or used, I expect some kind
of guarantee (money back or replacement or both). If
I get neither, then I have been ripped off.
2) If I pay wholesale and/ or below the asking price of a
used buggy or part, I expect to "eat it" if I can't use it
or I have to rebuild it.
3) If I pay above scrap or core value for a buggy or a
part because that buggy or part was supposedly "rebuilt"
and it turns out to be a dud, I have been "ripped off".

Lesson learned: I bought a buggy with an engine that
was supposedly "rebuilt". It may have been "freshened
up", but it was far from "rebuilt". The guy that sold
it to me was told that it was rebuilt. He probably
had no way of knowing for sure. I was ripped off
and I have to "eat it".

I prefer to call them "tested" but Ive had good good luck buying used parts, im i just careful who i get from... most guys on here on good guys and always done me right when ive Gotten parts from them.

I wouldnt say i got burned on the buggy i have now because i knew the history of it but it turned 2 bearings the first time i took it out and really turned on it. I definitely had to eat that at the tune of nearly 2gs but now i know what i have... it is what it is i guess but im happy with the way things have turned out 8)

I should probably be more specific
as to what a good used
"tested" & "rebuilt" engine really is,
minimum:
1) New pistons, jugs, and rings.
2) Ground crank- true and round.
Drilled for 8 dowel. New gland
nut.
3) Reconditioned rods- checked for
straightness, new reamed bushing
and honed big end.
4) Reconditioned heads- new exhaust
valves, new guides where needed.
heat tested for cracks and leaks.
All good studs and threaded holes.
5) Case- align bored or new. Prefer
full flow. lifter bores checked, no
egged-shaped pin holes, no shuffled
case mating, no cracks, hot washed,
oil galleys brushed out, oil pressure
regulator holes reamer-checked. Decked.
Head studs with thread sealer when
needed.
