Post subject:  Chain Drives...

I've been considering going chain drive with my buggy i wanted to hear the pro's and con's that yall have had with them. This is what i have...Its a single seater rail i will be running a 1800cc type 4 engine and a 091 six rib transaxle. The tires are 35x16x15 cut boggers so u guys think this will be a good idea for me

Thank you for your reply i do see what u are saying and i will take it all into considertion but me and my dad(GAMNTRAIL) currently ride in a "little buggy" and we love it but the terrian we ride it very tough with ruts and alot of rocks and there are some thing that we cannot over come with our buggy but to be honest i am leaning towards the chain drive and the reason for that is i want to be able to over come any and every thing i come into contact with on the trails, Like BLUE ROCK @ Beasley Knob, In Blairsvill Ga.

Bruce is right. Get in what you can and ride. Make improvements everytime you go. Come up with your own ideas and borrow from everyones ideas too. Half of the fun is doing it your own way. Get some years experience and then you can make wiser decisions. Chaindrives will go places no other 2 wheel drive vehicle will go. Conventional buggies will go plenty places and fast. Start small and simple and work your way up to whatever your limits are. My buggy aint much special but I couldn't handle a KY jelly buggy or a monster buggy. 8)

I think it is important that you build a vehicle that will work well for the terrain you intend on using it. Does not matter what you build as long as you are happy with what it can and cannot do.

What year 3.1 Chevy do you suggest, Curt? Who sells the propane kits for them?
Why do you suggest that engine? (just curious) :D

I appriciate all the help my son recieved in his questions concerning going to chain drive. I knew this would be a touchy subject when I told him to get on the board & ask opinions about the pros & cons. Thank you Curtis for posting your reply.........Is there anyone else that has pros & cons of a chain drive???Myself , I have a little buggy & i try to improve it every chance i get..... I have never rode in a chain drive but what I see has been impressive. I like all of the buggies that are a 2wd version , the 4x4's are cool but thats just more crap to break & not my thing.
