So after swearing at anything and everything and wanting to roll my Buggy down a hill I came to accept that I need a rebuild, seems that I lost a seal or have a stuck open valve in cylinder 3. ... so I have a 2165cc motor that needs a rebuild anybody know where I can get a cheap rebuild kit for this?

If your positive you need a rebuild, you need to tear it down and see what the problem is and decide from there. You might not need as much as you think. Im going through the same thing now and if you need a pair of heads,i have a pair of Mofoco 050's with not much run time on them.

I would steer clear of engine kits personally... it cost more to piece it together, but you end up with a better motor IMO. If it was built last spring, i would pull the head and see whats up.. maybe have the head fixed, or re-ring it.. worse case, a set of pistons and jugs 8)

That would make me happy I'm getting a book this week on how to tear these motors down and what I should look for once I do... I'm hoping its not that bad but..... Nothing is ever what you think it should be when it comes to engines lol. How much do you want for your heads? And have they had any work done to them? Wouldn't mind having an extra set of heads around.

These air cooled VW motors are not hard to work on compared to a lot of other motors in this world, so get a book pull the head and see what's going on shouldn't take long to get apart even if you don't have much motor experience. Good luck its probably a easy fix.

I have oil coming out of only cylinder 3's header. .. I could be wrong but I'm grabbing a compression tester from auto zone Friday and I'm gonna comp. test all cylinders and see what happens.

Is it missing at all? Noise in the valve train? My first guess would be a broke ring on cylinder 3...

Well, it's got a pretty aggressive cam in her so I can't determine wether she's missing or loping, but every maybe 15 seconds there's is a small kind of thud, very faint you cant hear it unless you really put your ear next to it. I took the header off and looked for any excess oil coming out and didn't see any until I hit the throttle. It isn't a lot that comes out maybe a few drops of oil at best. Does anybody know how much rings are to replace? And can I replace one or do I have to replace all of them? If that is the case..

Take the heads n jugs off and hone them and re-ring it if the jugs look ok. A ring set 50 or less

Check yer end play, comp check (cold n hot), vacuum check, and fuel delivery. Then put a timing lite on it and see if your timing ain't drifting back and forth. I still say a block with really bad end play can move back and forth gently and play games with timing. Oil yer centrifugal weights in yer distributor sometimes. They can get rusty sometimes. There are so many little things that make a motor run bad. Always have good sp. plug wires and fuel flow b4 diagnosing.
