Just throwing a guess out to left field. For internal sounds, Stick a fuel hose in your ear and touch different sides of the motor and listen all over including flywheel. Disconnect belt would be better for hearing and rag over exhaust. A tooth missing on 1st gear main shaft will make a small knock while in neutral.

Last time I had 4 adadad noised coming from my commuter car and it turned out that them walmart tires went bad and had loose internal threads (60-70% thread left). Went by South Eastern tires and all the Adadad got deported.
