Check out this new Motor made by Birmingham Motorcycle Co. It is 160 HP and only weighs 150 lbs.. This could be a potential buggy engine if the pice is reasonable.

Forty, if you are looking at budget with the potential for big power, Echotec is the route I would go. If you don't mind spending $3000 you can get a Honda S 2000 high reving. The TORC racing series unlimited cars that are dominating this year are running the Echotec they are torque monsters.

That's my two cents. I run the Acura 3.2 but it is heavy, loads of torque and horse power but about 450 lbs.

The Subaru WRX 2.5 turbo motors make 300 horse from the factory have no idea on cost?

The problem with a WRX2.5 is it uses turbo to get to 300 hp. Not a great power curve in the woods. Odyknuck has one, but runs a smaller turbo to reduce turbo-lag.

My fantasy is a featherweight single seater and a S&S 124" crate motor with straight pipes. Nobody ever gonna say shit about air cooled after hearing that coming through the woods 8)

My setup is different as it uses the N/A 2.5 with 10:1 compression and a T3 60 Trim Turbo. I still have the stock HP and torque on the low end without boost. Were as the WRX uses 7.5:1 ratio and really needs the Turbo to get its HP and torge, so not much on the bottom. The difference is I can only run 8PSI max Boost due to the higher compresion were as the WRX is in the 15 PSI range producing more power overall and mostly on top. The WRX is not a good application for the woods in my opinion. The WRX would be a great desert racing or Dune motor.

And for you Ford fans with deep pockets,
193 hp, Direct Injection, New engine by itself, $2400.
I remember when I was looking for a Duratec that they were lighter and more hp than a Ecotec.
The engine weight by itself about 210 - 225 lbs.
I just could not justify the cost for the ecu/wiring harness. So I went with the Ecotec.

The price was the 1st post on the 2nd page of shoptalkfourms, after the pictures.
"$8500.00 less the radiator, lines, and Power Steering Pump. Engine by itself is 2400.00"
Still more than the average person can spend.
