any of yall a "builder/carpenter"?

this might sound crazy and may impossible but i want/need to raise the roof on my shop at least 1ft but 2 ft would be better, my 1/2 ton 4x4 only clears the door about an 1" and the hood hits the dropped ceiling before its all the way up and the 3/4 ton 4x4 wont even get in the door.

its on a concrete slab with open 2x4 walls on the inside and chip board and vinyl siding on the outside, i was thinking it MIGHT be possible to unbolt the walls from the floor jack it up but im not sure waht would be the best way to "fill the gap" or to anchor it all back together without loosing integrity????

the shop is roughly 24ft wide x 32ft long. i know garage journal would probably be the best place ask about this type of thing but for the most part i seem to get to feeling a little on the inferior side when i lurk around over there

Sounds like a lot of work. I would think, if they could lift the garage structure, you could add a cinder block wall to the foundation wall to raise it. I'm sure if they can jack a house up and haul it halfway across a town, they could raise a garage somehow. May not be worth the cost though.

I am not a carpenter but it sounds like it would be easier to modify the trusses in the ceiling and raise the top of the garage.

MrKris, It can be done and Forty is right on that concrete block filled with concrete could be used to raise the roof and walls up. Mouse also has a good idea if you are dealing with a conventional frame roof and not pre-engineered trusses. I am a building contractor with 17 years of building and carpentry experience. I don't think it is inexpensive unless you can just raise the bottom cord/ collar tie as Mouse suggested.

thanks for the replys, raising the droped ceiling isnt really option, i like storage it provides plus there would still be the door problem

the vids are cool, at least its been done befor, now to decide whether its better to raise the roof or the whole structure?

all the electrical, walk-in door, and windows will need relocated if raising the whole structure, can probably get by with just dealing with lights and central unit if raising only the roof but which would be best structure wise?
