What are some details on your engine? For my engine, a built up 2276, I run a rev limiter at 6000RPM, |

Cam, rockers, pushrods, valve springs, etc. etc. all play a role in this. I remember a stock single port motor that Kyle Martin had SCREAMING at 4,000. |

Great answer Dink, I always use to let it eat, what do you need a tach for? Thats what rev limiters are for. |

I have know idea if it has a rev limiter on it. I if it does I have never hit it. 2350 Webber 44. Not sure about the push rods and what not though. I believe the highest I have gotten it up to was 5000 rpm. |

If you do have stroked engine it will not tolerate RPM in excess of 6,000 without serious balancing and blueprinting. If all internals (rod assembly, pistons) are gram-ed out to 1/10 of an gram then higher rev limits are possible. Most rod sets are matched meaning they are within an acceptable range. Piston sets are the same. By weighing them and by shaving/ polishing off material in areas that do not compromise the part until each piece is within a tenth of a gram. The entire rotating assembly can be balanced together following the gram-ing of the rod assemblies and pistons. This level of balancing will produce the greatest potential for a smooth running high revving engine. |

5000 is a good number to keep it at. You are really not gaining much anyhow by taking it to 6000. The lower you keep it the longer between engine overhauls. |
