I was wondering what the value of my title with VIN number still attached to a piece of an old buggy frame?
The title says 91 Homemade/ assembled, rebuilt salvage. No odometer.

I have sold bug titles for more than that. The cheepest I have seen a real buggy title was $300. I'm not evan sure I want to sell just curious.

Slightly off topic but how do they attach a VIN plate to the car? Do they supply a VIN and you rivet it on or something? I assume in Ohio if you have an assembled title they must assign a new VIN with it. I'll be trying soon to get mine inspected.

Mine is an aluminum tag that is riveted to the frame. They may do something different now. I have seen some stamped into the tubing.

Getting a buggy titled in ohio is an enormous amount of work. You have to have so much crap on the buggy it isn't worth doing. Most guys just register them as beetles.

I think I already have everything. Wiper, washer, cable e-brake, flasher, turn signals, high low beam, laminated glass windshield, speedometer, horn, brake lights, I even through a radio in. lol. I think if you have all the equipment they are more concerned with stolen parts. I heard they check all parts with VIN stamps for theft. They also require titles for said parts or proof of purchase. They can check receipts too for anything over a certain value. I'll probably need a set of wheels and tires because I have beadlocks.

ive researched this in ohio and as far as i can tell the inspection is not about bieng "street legal" its more about proving you bought everything on it and checking any numbers for stolen. i have not done one yet so i cant speak firsthand but this is what ive seen on ohio goverment websites.

And from what I understand they want to see all of your receipts so they can see things are not stollen, and pay taxes on what you have in it? This title would save someone a lot of work an money.

I would agree.. It is a pain in the butt to get a real buggy title... I have two of them. One I did myself in 1988 and the other one I bought for $300.

One thing to consider is the year. If you register a new title, they might title it as a 2012 and you will need to comply with all 2012 requirements. Including emissions and an OBD2 sensor. Some other states will title it by the year of the engine.

In GA, they stopped letting you register dune buggies.

In Kentucky when the state issues a vin# does in come on a plate that you attach to the buggy? Or do ya stamp it yourself. A guy is wanting to trade me a buggy and it has a ky rail buggy title but there's no vin plate. I'm in ohio so the title and vin plate info must be verified before a ohio title is written.
