| Post subject: | Rafter Elevator |
I want to make a rafter elevator for my garage, i have way too much stuff and way too little space. And standing on top of a 6ft latter, with tires/wheels/anything is just not a good idea. I want to move all of my buggy stuff up there plus random crap. I'm thinking the platform will be 20" wide and 48" long. I will use 1/2 plywood for deck and 2x4's for base. I want to have 1 i-bolt per corner where the cable connects to. I was thinking of using 3/8 steel cable for the cables connecting the pulleys to what ever is on top of the garage. This is where i need help, i have no idea how im going to lift the deck and keep it level and yet safe. I figure the platform it self will be 15 pounds alone and i would like to be able to lift a tranny at most. The working limit would prolly be 150 lbs. ![]() I was thinking something like this just more balzy. I like how he has 2 of the corners coming to one point. I believe that i could fashion a cheap hf winch in the middle and lift equally. As for securing the pulley's at the top i could make a 2x4 frame for it so it would rest off of the rafters on both sides destituting the weight and same with the winch. What do you think? |

Well I think you need to put all your parts on your buggy and get it finished instead of putting it in the attic, lol.what ya doing, putting the buggy outside to put the stang inside?lmao. Chad |

try making handles on both sides and come across with a bar to join them then you can use a chain hoist to raise it. if you fasten the chain through the hook on hoist and bring both ends evenly to connect to shelf it would stay level. If you aren't going heavy duty try a pulley system, wish I new how to draw on here to show you what I mean. good luck with it. let us see pics of finished product. |

We have a 3 car garage gasman But yea im thinking of using 3" pulley's off of a garage door. It will be heavy duty, also i could just bipass the bar and use 3' sections of chain for each side going to the chain hoist hook. |

You need to put a pulley system on it.can lift a lot of weight with ease by doubling it through the pulleys.I can't draw on here with the icrap pad,but look at say bass pro shops or a sporting goods shop at their pulley systems for hanging canoes and kayaks from garage ceilings and copy to your dimensions and for your weight.pretty neat setup.can lift a 16' canoe loaded with crap with one hand like it weighs 10 pounds. Nice, will do. I was thinking about just taking a hf winch, pulling all the cable offa it, finding the center, mounting it to the winch (in center) and just using that because i need to be able to unload it without holding the cable. Idk how the boat lifts work? |

Do what I did, build 50X100 ft. warehouse, then build 2 story house inside one end of it and use rest for buggy shop, oh and don't forget to build pallet racks all along the inside walls. Also leave enough room around the outside of warehouse to build additional sheds off of it, I didn't do that and had to build an additional freestanding shed 34X60 ft. Also before you finish it, put up a big sign [I didn't] for your friends stating "This is my shed & warehouse, and NO YOU CAN'T STORE YOUR BOAT,ETC... HERE. |
