found a porsche 914 with dual webers car is complete. is there anything other than the carbs any good on these i have intakes for type one. i can get it cheap . axles? cv's?

Axles and CV's are worth getting as well as all the brakes. You could probably part out the motor and tranny to someone who still has one on the road.

Plumberbill is looking for a type 4 motor, isn't that the samething? I'd agree on the the axles brakes.

i'm still in the process of educating myself on the type 4 so i'm not sure about the differences between porsche t4 and vw t4. anybody with info please chime in.

My Dad is big into the type 4, but from what I have learned from him the porshe type 4 & VW type 4 are the same thing. We are going to put a 1800 cc (1.8 ) engine in my sons rail which came out of a porsche 914. I hope that helps . I think the old saying is true " there is no substitution for CUBIC INCHES ." I have a type 1vw engine built up to 1776cc, if you can start with a 1.8 (1800cc) your already past me and have'nt even had to build it up. Just some thoughts ????

If you get it, I'd be interested in the front struts w/brakes. I'm using 914 struts cut down with welded in inserts for the front uprights on my baja.

As for the engine, 914s came with 1.7, 1.8, 2.0 type IV engines and a 2.0 911 flat 6. The type IV 2.0 engine has heads that are unique to a 914 type IV. The easiest way to identify these heads is they have 3 studs for the intake manifold instead of 4 as on the 1.7 and 1.8. All 914/4s were originally fuel injected in the US spec trim. Being as they were injected the camshafts aren't really optimal for use with carbs. Will it work? Oh yeah it will work just fine. I had a 2.0 Vanagon engine in my rail w/44idfs. It won't give you the most performance that these engines are really capable of. I had a 1.7 in my 914 that I had rebuilt w/86b webcam and raised compression ratio to 9.2. It was otherwise factory internally beside the melling oil pump. I had 2.0L heat exchangers and 44idfs. My 1.7 felt faster than my 2.0 in my rail.
