| Post subject: | NEW MOTOR BLEW INTO PIECES |
We just built a new motor 2387 and put AA brand pistons in it, the motor didnt have good oil pressure, but we couldnt figure it out we thought the block was bad or something, but we rode the buggy up the road and came back to the garage and parked it, to let the motor cool down, no sooner than we started it back it made a real bad noise so we figured it threw a rod or something, we pulled the motor off and seen a hole in the top of the block so we started tearing it down and when we took the tins off the jugs we seen that the piston and jug had exploded, and it let the rod fly loose and bent the rod and put a hole in the block, the bearings and everything are still fine. Does anyone have any idea what caused the piston to bust, i just think it was a bad piston, they were too cheap. |

There is a lot of information about AA P&C's doing exactly what your explaining on Samba.com. Im not saying they are bad equipment but the large number of times i have read about this happening will definatly make me steer clear of them.Hope you have better luck the next go around. |

I ran a set for a 1-1/2 in my race buggy & a wrist pin keeper came out so the pin slide out & broke the piston in 1/2 . So if you run these you need to run spiral locks . |

I don't what the big deal is about the VW engines, I think they will last a long time if properly built with proper parts and even proper maintenance. They are high maintenance engines and will need to be checked out every other ride for good oil level, end plays, and run good fuel. There are guys I know that has been running their VW engines for 10+ years without splitting the case to rebuilt it, all they had to do is just re-ring the pistons once every few years or by checking them with a compression tester to see if it needs to be done, I like some of the water cooled buggies, but for what I like doing now, I am sticking with the VW engines myself because they are lighter, easier to work on and even lighter than w/c engines. |

Yall need to talk to your suppliers and jump up and down and say we're not gonna take this Chineese stuff anymore! Just stop trying to put it on us!It's because it is a higher profit margin! While YOU go 10 miles in the woods down in a valley and have to be pulled out.Are the Chineese there to drag you out? Is the suppier there to pull you out? Are they going to fund you to fix it? Are they going to stand there in your garage to fix it? How many week ends are YOU going to miss out while YOU fix it? Damit wake up! WAKE up!!!Dave loves his $450 factory German motor.Sometimes I have to remind myself I am not the smartest guy out in the woods!Ahhhhhhh!!!I've been around them since 1971. |
