You could do away with them and build beefier "3 point" trailing arms that weld to the bearing housing at top and at bottom. ?

Those outer hubs are aluminum. Anything other than the stock location & you get a lot of rotation in addition to the vertical. I have wanted to do this with a V8 for years but it would weigh a ton or more. The 2300 could keep the weight down. If I decide to put this together one day Ill definitely have to think this one through. A Jag IRS will get 12+ inches travel if its done right.

The Ford Thunderbird 7.5 diff was too weak. I changed to a Thunderbird or Cougar 8.8 with a 5.0 motor and the teeth are masive. They come in Continentals also. I looked at a Mercedes diff and it had tiny fine teeth.I never seen the inside of a Jag but the British can't build anything.

Jag diff is a Dana 44 & can be upgraded to handle 600 HP or more with the right parts. The half shafts accept Chevy 1 Ton U-joints & are nearly indestructable. These have so many aftermarket options thanks to the street rod industry that you can pick & choose your upgrades.

I dont know if they are strong or not but the chrsler 300's and dodge magnums have that style rearend also. Both come with an optional Hemi, so it might have some strength.
