Fan is hitting fan shroud, but will stop when I pull up on the alternator. Can I shim the alternator? or do I need to do something else? Thanks

My brother had the same problem and it was the bolts that hold the alternator to the tin. The bolts are behind the fan.

When mine did that it was the fan itself had broke behind the nut. Had to replace the fan.

IF! your fan is straight and true take some RTV and glue the gap and the next day cut it loose with a razor blade and you will have an air tight seal from hell. Remember air comes in and 1 way out. Keep it sealed. Does water cooled have leaks?
