i have put a suby 2.2 in my buggy and with my pan cut at 4 inches and with 2x3 rear arms and 23 deg stones i am siting at 15 inches to my oil pan thats without my skid plate on yet . i am redoing my rear cage so i dont wont to start bending untill i figure out if i should clock my tranny more to get the engine up , i am a trail rider so i dont want to be daggin the engine around ! thanks for any help !

That seams a little low but V-treads take away a lot of ground clearance.. You might also consider some different tires for Trail Riding and use the V-treads for hill climbing.. With the power a Subi engine makes you should be able to run 35s with no problem

As for the Tranny, if you can adjust it more, go ahead. I am sure someone smarter than me can comment on the degree but I remember reading something about a no more than 6 degrees.

I clocked the tranny by dropping the front down and rasing the rear an 1 1/2 inches. The front shifter collar was almost sitting on the torsion. I used the skid pan that was under the vw and didnt change it for the subaru.

i brought the trans and motor up 2in and run the same set up you do with the skid plate on i got about 18in of clearnce

You can crank your torsion bars up a little as long as you don't over your degrees on the cv's fully drooped, the easiest way to go is putting on some bigger tires, you can reclock your drive train if you want, but I think 5 is the most degrees you would want to go to, if you go more, the nature of the drivetrain setup will try to "level" itself out and results would be a lighter front end when under power going up decent hills. Mickey is correct on the tires, you dont have to run 23 degree stones just to trail ride, I have seen cut boggers and buckshots do pretty good all around.

I have my trans turned up to 8 degrees and as long as you don't change the drive flange elevation to much there will be no issues. In other words use the drive flange as a pivot point to re-clock the trans. I have heard of folks going to 10 degrees without issue. The more you clock it the more you will need to raise the drive flanges because the shifter will hit the torsion housing. The more you raise the flanges the more you are LOWERING the chassis.

thanks for the info everyone , i went out after work and cut the engine mounts off that were all made and put it on the picker and i need to cut the inner part of the frame cause the tranny hits it but so far i see a gain off 3 to four inches on the pan ! two step forward one step back

clock the trans. kylemartin did, we got a lot more clearance out of his that way.

just build a strong skid plate and let it drag! lol or buy some diff tires and give me the stones. When you gonna have that thing finished? I think im goin down this weekend to test out the new steering
