Check the charge light that you should have installed. it may have blown that.

My original alternator had a piece of cardboard under the battery lead. After a few years the cardboard fell apart and caused a direct short. I took it to a local rebuild shop and they said it blew everything inside and wasn’t rebuildable. Hopefully that’s not the case with yours. Like nitro said you need to have an idiot light that’s working. If it’s a one wire alternator you need to have 12volts to excite (turn on) the regulator. So if the idiot light is burnt out it can’t complete the circuit and turn on the regulator. If all that is good take it to a rebuild place and have them check it. Could be a 50 cent diode.

mine does not have the DF or D+ on it does the one with the nut run to the + side of the bat. and would not having the light keep it from putting out 12V

Yes, the one with the nut goes to the power feet to the starter or to the + of the battery. Then the small spade goes to one side of the idiot light, and then the other side of the idiot light goes to ignition on.

Call me if you need help I can explain it a little more over the phone. I’ll be up till 12 or so tonight.
