Trying to decide where to mount my optima and was wanting to know some wheres and whys about it. I want to mount it in the floor between the front and back seat but worried about the youngun stepping on it or on the cables. Also thought about mounint in the front, somewhere up beyond where the feets go but don't want to make such a long run with the big battery cable.

Just looking for some opinions. Thanks guys.

my frame battery was up front. prolly 100.00 bill just in cables. it was 2 guage.

I used 2 gauge welding wire, ($2.79 per ft.) to run positive to the starter and just a short negative to ground to the frame up front.....

You can use a old set of jumper cables also.I have seen that done before.Evrybody has a set of those laying around with bad clamps on them.After you put wire loom around it you can't even tell it.

Most jumper cables are smaller than 6gauge. I also used the #2 welding cable {TSC}.What good is a strong battery if you dont have the cables to carry the current to where you want it. IT CAUSES STARTERS TO FAIL .

I used welding cable for my battery cables and my battery is in the rear. Bigger is always better when it comes to amperage and wire.

Mine is going behind the passenger seat on the rail. Will help balance out the weight difference between my son and I. This was stated already just adding to what was said. Using regular battery cables as I have short runs to the started and ground.

I've got mine mounted behind the passenger seat. I never did like the idea of a acid spewing battery in front of me. Ya never know, a bad regulator or well placed stick and you're taking a acid bath on a hillside.

Thats why its a good idea to run a gel cell or dry cell battery.

up front is the safest place a guy i ride with hi was behinde the passenger seat and it blew up and shot battery acid in his eyes

I mounted the battery on the right side of the buggy behind me, I run an Optima battery because they will not leak acid even when it is mounted upside-down or sideways and it has never let me down even after 5 years of buggy riding and it has been through 2 buggies and soon to be 3.

I mounted mine up front for ballast reasons. As for leaks and such use a battery box. Summit racing sells them for less than 10.00. They also sell an entire kit that comes with a battery box,battery hold down kit, hardware,36" 2 ga black cable,240" red 2 ga cable,terminals,clamps and gromets for 71.95. Part number is SUM-G1200A.

u can get away with 4 gauge hot wire for a long run this is what i have used in drag cars for years with no problem
most people dont understang that the key is good grounds grounds r 90% of peoples problems grounds should be equal or bigger than the hot wire

Hey. If you ever HAVE to make a fire or light a smoke ,run some SKINNY TIE WIRE ONLY thru some dry paper and hold it by the paper between -and + and no need to count to 5, you GOT FIRE! But watch for exploding batteries.Wife looses her lighter often.Dave from Fultondale.

mine used to be behind pass seat and now it is centered in the front with welding cable to starter and short ground to frame also welding cable

it helped minefrom bouncing up in the front when i hit a ledge on a hill

Just a tip guys, Dont use welding cable. They typically only have somewhere around 10 individual wires that are jacketed. What you want to use is the kind of wire used by the audio guys where you have hundreds of individual wires. It transmits electricity much better.
Electrons travel along the surface of the wire not really through it, so the more wires the easier it is for the electrons to move.

The best cable you can get comes from Semi truck shops. It is heavy gauge & high amperage as well. It lasts under extreme conditions for millions of miles. Most shops crimp the ends for you which eliminates the cheap bolt on ends & these crimps dont come loose. WARNING.....Its not cheap but it is the best for long runs.
