Yepper. I think that's my problem with it going on and off. Thinking of getting a 75 amp alternator. With a 6000lb winch I should have considered my amperage. Never had to worry about that with my 4x4's.

I read some where after posting this, the EPS has a max of 62 amps. Hard to believe. I have a 30 amp fuse. It only has blown twice but I had a loose wire.

1) The alternator rating should match the battery that you are using.
2) The battery that you are using should equal or exceed the current required to crank and start the engine. Make sure that
the coil is getting enough current while cranking.
3) After the engine is running, a fully charged battery will usually
supply plenty of current for surge demands of EPS motors, electric air pumps, lights, amplifiers,etc..
4) If you think that you will be turning the steering wheel at the same exact time that you are turning on other accessories then you
could damage the charging system?? If this is the case, then there
should be a quick-blow fuse between the alternator and the battery.
5) Any fuse that blows between the battery and any accessory, should first be replaced with a lower amperage slow-blow to fix the problem. If that blows, only then do you increase the amperage rating of that circuit's fuse (in small increments).
6) When the EPS motor first turns on and is under load, the surge of power drawn is large. It is hard to say how heavy of a cable to run, but always go one or two sizes bigger. This offsets any future
occurrences with problems like poor connections, faulty motors, faulty motor drivers, etc.

That makes sense jimp but my Explorer has the same size battery as my Expedition. The Expedition has a high output alternator due to all the electric gizmos. The Explorer doesn't have an high output. I'm believing that there is more than matching the battery. My battery is a 500 cca deep cell.

There is more to it than matching the battery and the alternator.
The baseline spec is to match the alternator to the battery and then
go from there according to how many more accessories that you
are running continuously. Too much alternator supposedly shortens
battery life due to internal plate degradation.

if im reading all this correctly, you are asking this question because your power steering quits at times? also did you buy and install the adjuster kit off of ebay that your "supposed" to use with it?

Yes. I bought the kit. Even if the EPS didn't shut down I think I need to upgrade the generator. Under certain circumstances at night I am way under on amperage. I don't want to damage my deep cycle battery. Winch (at 2000lb pull) 132 amps, LED light bar 2 amp, 4 lights 3 amps, EPS 20-30? amps, tail lights 2 amps. No doubt generator is taxed out. Problem waiting to happen?? More so than not.

oh generator! yeh toss that!im thinking mine is a 95 amp?vw alternator, haven't hooked up my powersteering yet cause im waiting on the part from europe :lol: but anyway read the bottom of this picture? and you said you blew a fuse once, maybe theres a problem with the motor? I copied this off facebook but it didn't have the whole description in the picture. sure would be nice to read the rest of that part :roll: didnt the ebay part come with these instructions

Yes. It came with instructions. I also didn't do the on/off switch like he said. I have it wired to the ignition instead being seperate. It probably needs the engine running before power going to the EPS.

You definitely need an alternator, I am running EPS with Fuel Injection on A/C vw with 55 amp alternator and it is working well. I am using the 70 amp fuse that came factory with the Saturn EPS,

Update. I installed a dedicated on/off switch and added a 75 amp alternator. EPS works great now. No issues.
