My oil idiot light comes on when I turn ignition on and then goes out...
But if I unplug wire from sending unit it doesn't come on? Am I missing something? Bought a new sending unit and still does the same thing.

1st of all I noticed Sunday that your fan belt is very loose. I could see the belt actually leaping over the pulley as you reved. And the oil wire needs to go from the sender , thru the lite, and then to the "run" or "accessory" side of the key switch. I guess you have it going to "start". Get a Top Cog belt from Autozone. They may have to order it, but they are the best.

Oil light should come on with ignition turned on. It goes out after the engine is running and the oil pressure builds high enough to break circuit to ground.

But shouldn't it come on if you unplug the sender?

There is no ground if sending unit is unplugged so no light. if you want to check it unplug it and touch it to the block light should come on when wire is grounded.
