well here is the deal, i installed a idiot light for my alternator on the buggy started up for about 3 secs and died.
never to start again. one side to ignition side of the key switch and the other straight to the D+ side of the alternator. i replaced the coil and the rotor and distributor cap.
here's what i have found, so far, while testing. i have 12.6 volt to the positive side of the coil, and i am getting my negative signal from my electronics back up to the coil when i turn it over, and i do not get a spark to any plugs or even if i test straight from the top of a coil with a spark plug hooked to it.
so i guess my question is ? how is it that i am getting signal from my electronics back to the coil and the coil is not firing? can the electronics be sending a weaken signal and not enough to fire the coil, but yet still show signal with a test light?

just wondering if anyone else has this issue with their electronics.

seems theres only one piece to the puzzle you havent swapped out , if im reading correctly.

just a guess. Don't the little single wire (D-) go to a lite and then to the ground? you meant D- right? If so the entire wiring harness was grounded and your module in the dist got zapped. Try bypassing everything and going from batt to coil with a jumper wire .D+ to switch would not have hurt anything.Another question "Are you getting 12 volts while the key is in the START position , not just the RUN position.If so, your switch is bad.

you are correct on the D+ and with the switch in the run position i have 12 volts to + side of the coil
when i turn the switch to start i also have 12 volts plus i am getting some type of signal back to the negative side of my coil from my distributor. only thing i haven't changed is the elctronics. may try to put points in it and get it back running that way. because 20 bucks is cheaper than a fried 60 dollar ignition module ! :cry:

you may have fried the ignition but if i understand you correctly you have it wired wrong also

this is how i wire all that i have worked on

hot wire from ignition switch to pos side of coil
red wire from electronic ign to pos side of coil
black wire from electronic ign to neg side of coil
hot wire from ign switch to one side of light
come off other side of light to alt push on terminal
alt bolt on terminal to bolt on batt connection at starter

Are you sure the coil is good? Worked on one the other day that would run for about ten seconds and shut off. After changing several parts the ignitor was bad. Put a neww ignition in and boom fixed. Its the first time ive ever seen one run and be bad. They usually wont do anything if their bad. Good luck.

I am assuming the coil is good ( since it is a new bosch ) that i bought after it wouldn't start.

ok. my starter has a push on terminal under the bolt on connection that goes to the battery. can i use that or should i bolt it on with the cable that goes to the battery. and what would be the difference if i was to go from B+ to straight to battery? just asking
please advise.

straight to the battery would be fine also but on most buggys the starter terminal is a lot closer so thats was the reasonig behind that, and as for push on connection i suppose it could work but would not be nearly as a secure connection if you know what i mean

Well the buggy lives again.
New electronic distibitor. Fixed the issue. Thanks for all the help
