my new to me buggy has a alt. light. when the ign. toggle is on so is the light, when the engine starts the light goes off, then as the rpms go up the light come back on & stays on.is this how you guys have yours? seems to me that it would catch my attention more if the light came on when it wasnt charging.if so can any one help with a diagram to hook it up this way. its a 3 prong with a small reg. fastented to the top of the alt.& the batt. wire as a post by itself to the side of the 3 prong

The light should only be on when you turn on the ignition. Once the engine is running it should go out. If not then the Alternator is not charging. Is one side of the light bulb hooked to the Alternator and the other side of the bulb hooked to a 12 vdc source off the ignition switch as it should be?

im not sure exactly how its wired,& i for got to mention,im sure its charging cause when its running i can unhook the bat.& itll still run..example, start it then unhook battery, turn on head lights & rev engine, as rpms go up the lights get brighter with bat unhooked.

Other side of indicator light should be the hot off of ign. switch, when the light is hot on both sides the light goes out. If you lose one of these and it picks up a ground it will light back up.
