I've always ran 2 100w lights with no probs. I removed them and put a light bar on with 4 100 watt lights on 2 switchs but 1 15 amp fuse. They were working good (in the garage) all wired up and when I left them on for a bit (motor not running) to adjust their angles it blew the fuse. Should I run a bigger fuse of even 2. My switch box is a bit crammed?????

I couldnt keep 15 amp fuses in mine, i just put a 30 amp (overkill, 20-25 is plenty) in and was done with it. I would put each set one on a separate fuse. Get an inline fuse if you can't get it in the box.


I blew 15 amp fuses with those 55w little round bluish lights from advanced... One does have a bad bulb, not sure if that would cause more current draw with the element bouncing around inside the housing..?

You did say if you was using a Relay or not but if not you really should wire one in I run 2 130w KC's on one 30amp relay on a 25 amp Fuse have never had a prob. most lights and higher amp elactical things really need a relay. also i will look later but some place i have how you can use a 5 wire relay and a off-on-on and have 2 on or all 4 on one Switch let me know if you would like it and i will try to find it for you.

My dumb question is this... What is a relay... I've heard of them but have no Idea what the use is. I have done plenty of wireing on buggies but never with a relay. Thanks guys.

think of it as a HD Switch for say your lights can pull as many amps as it needs. most Switches will not allow the amps needed to flow throw them.

a 20 amp switch putting a 30amp Fuse would melt the switch if it did draw the 30amp to pop the fuse.

this is a better pic to see it in but this relay is a 5 wire but a 4 will work just the same as you can see the 87A is not being used

Make sure you get good relays (Bosch or Hella). They will be about 4 to 7 dollars each. Cheaper ones are open on bottom which lets dirt in. I had a problem on my last buggy where every time I turned on my KC's they wouldn't shut off without disconnecting the battery. The heavy draw from the lights was welding the contacts in the relay. Took the "Hwa Fong" autozone relay and threw it in the woods and put a Bosch one in. Never had the problem again.

Also if you know any local scrap yards that take semi trucks, the average Peterbuilt will have about 20-30 Hella relays in it. They make great "Tool Box Specials"
