Just wondering what fuel pumps you guys are running and your reviews on them?

I had a walbro lph 255 that quite on me after only putting it in back in fall. Also you could hear it humming over the engine.

So what are you guys running?

I use the ford F150 fuel pump. Been running for 3 or 4 years now. See below.

The external pumps used in Ford F150 fuel injected trucks from the 89-93 model years are Delco EP286. At 12 volts, the operating pressure is 70-95 PSI with 36-40 gals per hour. The biggest Delco pump is the EP424, which is 75-90 PSI at 40 gals per hour. EP 268 is a GM# 25117086, EP 424 is a GM# 25176156."

I like to keep it simple.. Stock Fuel Pump works fine for me.. If I go to dual carbs, maybe I will upgrade.

Stock fuel pump. The stock pump is enough to feed dual 48 IDAs.

What water cooled engines uses dual carbs? Most of them are EFI.

Sorry about that. Were you using a filter between the fuel tank and inlet of the pump?

Post subject:  Re: What fuel pump you running?

i have my fuel filter before the pump. I have a later vw golf fuel filter which is huge with the theory that since I dont have any baffles in my tank or even a sump that on hard hills I might be starving my engine. So with this big fuel filter it might act as a sump. But I think it might be having issues with the gravity feed because of this huge filter. Pump is mounted below the tank. I bought a turbo volvo fuel pump for $80 at advanced auto with a warranty. Works good so far but I think Im going to switch my setup around some more.

my summit pump directions say to mount the pump HIGHER than the bottom of the tank. I use a cheap inline filter between the tank and pump because of no in tank strainer and then i have a high pressure style gm factory filter after the pump.

I went to the salvage yard and bought three feul pumps from jaquar v12s at 25 a peice. I put a filter before and a stock subaru after. They work fine and cant beat the price.

As long as you pre filter has a large inlet and outlet it should not starve. Audi used one with a 12 mm inlet and outlet. Part # 811 201 511 D. I have not tired this one but was told a WIX #33278 has 1/2" inlet and outlet.

True, in the jag its mounted in the trunk lower than the tank. It has 1/2 in inlet and outlet on the prefilter. Its been workin fine so far.

i'm running all -6 lines. My pump is higher than the bottom of the tank, cuz the tank sits on the floor. Normal running has been fine, but under 3rd gear hard turns (race conditions) it acts like im running poorly tuned carbs. I think the fuel is sloshing around or arrerating and the pump is sucking air. Im working on a "surge tank" that some road racers told me about.

Bosch 044, noisy, but well proven, good for 500bhp, well proven for reliability, and will happily pump petrol/2 stroke/methanol/nitro with no complaints.

Well my summit pump is dieing.
It runs about 30 min. and shut off. Then 20, 10 and 5 min.
So I'm guessing as it gets warm it's shutting down. This is the one I have.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G3138/
I probably have between 50 to 70 hours on it.
Anyway I didn't like how noisy it was.

Searching for fuel pumps I see these suggestion,
87 VW Vanagon
84 Toyota
Ford E2000
Delco EP286 & EP424
Bosch 44
Walbro

I'm looking for one that is not noisy and last alot longer.
Do you guys have any other suggestion of whats working for you and is it noisy?

Thanks, Norm

its been a while since i used one so i dont remember how loud they are but have you tried a holley "red" (if using carbs) pump, they also have several other "inline" and "carburated" and "efi" type pumps
