Well.... I broke the stepper motor on the throttlebody (idle control) last night. Who woulda thought if I kept pulling on it, it would break??? :x waitin on a 2004 WRX set-up now, it has a better idle setup anyway.

Ok, how did you manage to break that. It only has 2 screws that hold it in.

and you have never done that i take it  I was pulling it out to block the idle passage so i could use the butterfly to control the idle. I'm otherwise done (besides tuning) The powersteering pump took some "modification" to get the charlyne to run properly.

What modifications to the power steering pump? I had a buddy take my spare pump home with him and he is going to drill out some passages to allow more flow. He has done it to other pumps before. He said he had to pull out some plugs on the suby to get in there but he could re-plug it when done. I hope to get it back soon. My charlynn is slow now and I hope the mods help. thanks

I did work on my honda pump that is on my type 1, but the suby pump is completly different. I went into it with the idea that it was basically junk to me because it didnt work and i'd try to make it flow better and if I broke it, I would be right back where i started and would have to buy a better pump anyway. I drilled out 2 holes bigger and shimmed all the springs. I believe the one spring is kinda like a high speed cut of to actually make the car steer slower at highway speeds (just speculating), so I shimmed the hell out of it and the other spring is the relief and I couldn't get it out so I basically tried to close the hole down a little so it would flow less (I just wedged some crap into the opening  ) When i put it back on, even at 900 RPM's it steered flawlessly!! I don't know which of the "mods" did the trick, but it works. Now we'll just have to see if it lasts!

Not too much progress. I finished the "black box" or the dry box, and I had to shim my rear bump stops a little, about a 1/4" to make up for the subys oil pan. Still waiting on the throttle body.

I got the throttlebody last night, and of course it doesn't fit. The holes for the idle passage don't come close. Time to try out my milling skills (or lack of) to make an adaptor!

As I always say everything bolts on if you own a Hammer, Welder, Sawsall and a machine shop!

The idle valve works great now, so its time to start all the fun tuning stuff.

Cool, sounds like its coming along. Once you get it dialed in and hammer that throttle the first time it will all be worth it!

I had a guy come down from columbus yesterday to help me out a little bit with the tuning. Who woulda thought there was like 7 maps to tune for a warm start? He spent 5 hours doing what would have taken me 5 months at the rate im going. Almost time to dyno

I got the frame painted last night. Time to put it all back together again! I'm putting it on a chassis dyno this weekend. Thakns again Hyde for balancing the flywheel and pressure plate!

I don't know any thing about suby's but last week a guy from Peru surfaced into our group in a Suburban street truck. He is a Suby racer and works locally at the Soob dealer. I told him about the soobs at Stoney now he wants me to find him a frame.I'll see him tomorrow at Leeds and we will talk more.Maybe I can get him on this site.As far as my Passat I used the stock compt and harness. The pos wire going into the fuel inj, fuel pump and coil pack were given an overhead console pwr switch each, coming from the battery.

well, that didn't go as planned! I took off work Friday to finish everything, and had the dyno from 10:00 till noon on sat. After pulling almost an all-nighter, I made it to the dyno on time ready to go! Then to my surprise, the dyno will only accomodate a chassis up 82" wide. I brought two front spares with me for just this reason, and the race buggy was still 88" wide with those on the back. So needless to say, no dyno! We ended up tuning it in the parking lot at my work in the rain. It feels plenty torquey and revs out to 7000 easily. I want to get it in the dirt and beat on it some more!

I moved the alt over about 8 inches. It saved some work in some ways, but made more work at the same time  It really just made the aircleaner easier to mount
