Post subject:  Subaru on cheap side

I am wanting to change over from the air cooled to water cooled side and have been looking at the subaru 2.2 to keep the weight low. I am looking at buying an engine, ecu, wiring, exhaust and anything else I need from a stock car. What other parts will I need to buy, and what modifications will i need to do get it to run. I know I will need to fab motor mounts, and buy a bell housing. Anyone got any advice on the wiring harness like a diagram or is it better to buy a harness. I dont really want to spend 6k on a turn key motor.

Thanks

Out front motor sports have a ton of information. Depending how much you want to spend, they sell an aftermarket ECU that simplifies the wiring harness to just a few connectors.

They also sell every other part you might need.

Good Luck..

Put an ad on craigslist posting wanted to buy. I did that and got hits anywhere form 150 to 300 for entire car. Pull the motor and harness and scrap it.

Like Steve said, then order the 3x6 foot wiring diagram from kennedy engineering with the adapter, no motor mount needed the 2.2 will hang on the vw housing without any additional support.
Get a shortened oil pan while your at it.
Headers are easy with tubing bender, mine are 4 tubes into collector, comes together right behind the alternator.
Another thought, kennedy offers the flywheel as either a 200mm or 228mm, the 228mm is tempting.
