I worked on fork lifts for 5 years so I have some knowledge of propane systems. I plan on running a model E vaporizer (best one out there) & a VFF30 lock off unless there are better ones for off road. My question is mainly about carb size. I will be running a 2.3L Ford, 140 C.I. with forged pistons, ported head, big Esslinger cam, Offy 4 barrel intake & a header. I estimate HP around 140. Is there such a thing as too big of a LPG carb? Can I run a 425 on it since it bolts on a 4 barrel intake or is it too big? I know CFM ratings differ between LPG & gasoline but a built Pinto engine will run well with a 450 CFM carb. How well do the dual fuel converters work? I can put the ring right on top of my 465 Holley if they work well. Any help is appreciated...

My crawler had a 4 barrel on 4 cylinder toyota, I changed it to a 2 barrel there was no noticable difference.
I changed it thinking it would use less fuel, there was no change.
Use the 4 barrel.
Design your buggy for 2 tanks, so you can completely empty a tank and change over.
It's a pain puttin on a new tank to be sure you won't run out, even though the old tank was half full.

I picked up a VFF30 lock off new in the box for $25 shipped. I have time to round up the parts so Ill wait for bargains. Youngstown Propane sells used 8 gallon forklift tanks filled for $120 ea. Anyone know of a cheaper used tank let me know. The rock crawling guys ran my specs & recommend a 200M carb on a Holley 2 barrel baseplate on my combo.

Has anybody ever run the tanks vertical? They make a mount for it & I have the perfect spot for vertical tanks.

Ill post updates as I round up the parts to assist others who are considering propane.

I think the cheapest I've ever bought used empty tanks was for $85+ shipping so $120 filled is good.

Anybody need tanks??? I got a hell of a deal on aluminum 8 gallon 33 pound tanks. 65 bucks each. I wanted 4 but to get that price I may end up with 8. Ill know for sure in a few days. I may have 4 to sell at that price.

These are aluminum tanks....20 lbs. lighter than steel.

I don't remove my tank to fill it . Mr Burns showed me how to fill it with another tank .So I have a drag tank that holds 12 gal 'and I just fill the one in my buggy .Works great . And like MD said run it you may like it .I am putting dual 425 units on my little v6
