It is needed to adjust the fuel ratio, won't run right without it. Install it as far from the 'Y' pipe as you can.

the 2.2 in my loyale hasn't had a functioning primary 02 for about a year (I installed an innovate wideband. which immediately failed......and their customer service SUCKS). fuel-ratios are perfect, but it defaults to settings that are on the rich side, so it mostly means mediocre mileage. probably a little less power than ideal....but pretty close. not worried about going lean, that's for sure.

That's on an OBD I setup (wiring/ECU from a '92 legacy). I'd worry about it a bit more with an OBD II setup. the logic modules in those are much smarter, and rely more on the signal. but I still think if there wasn't one plugged in, it would use some default settings that would work very well.

I did a swap about a year ago using a '96 2.2. I ran it without 02 sensors for about a week.....it did fine.

Thanks for all of the replies, I'm probably going to run without it for now but I will install the bung in the header so I have the option in the future. It is a '90 legacy engine and ECU so it will probably be just fine.
Thanks again,
Alan

It may run ok without it but why. May as well run with one and get the engines full potential. The O2 sensor is the primary moniter for fuel control. just my opinion.
