Due to my very ugly divorce, my EX gave away 2 of my rails. I just bought a new frame & have been rounding up the parts for my 2300 Pinto engine that I want to run in my next rail. So far I have the running engine (25K on rebuild) forged pistons, ported mini stock head with Esslinger cam, Ranger header & Offy 4 barrel manifold. Eventually I want to run propane but for now I want to make an adapter to put my pair of Weber 40 IDF's inline on the 4 barrel intake. I have a few ideas for a progressive linkage that will let me run off 1 carb till half throttle then bring the other carb in from there. Ebay 230373781124 is for IDA's & is designed around the individual runner style but it will give you a visual reference. My design would place the carbs over an open plenum. IDF's always seem to be run 1 barrel to 1 cylinder. Is this by design? Can you run an IDF on an open plenum intake? I dont want to waste time on an adapter if the carbs wont function over an open plenum. Anybody know the answer to this one?

im sure they will run right if u can get them to seal,u might need 2 old aluminum empi intakes,cut them off about 4 in. from the top,them weld them to the 4 barrel intake,jus a thought,i think they make an in take that will bolt right on the motor for 2 webers an,or 2 side draft webers

Thats what I did with a 40 IDF on my Toyota woods truck. Cut an empi intake about 4", welded in to a 1/2" plate and bolted it to the 22R intake. It runs great!

There are a couple of intakes to run IDF's inline on these engines. The problem is they all use 1 barrel per cylinder & I want to get away from that if I can. I like the idea of running an open plenum under the carbs to avoid dropping a cylinder in the middle of a climb. Even with 3 filters between the tank & carbs I would still occasionally drop a cylinder due to debris clogging a fuel jet & I would like to avoid that if possible. Plus I already have the four barrel intake which I need to bolt the propane mixer to eventually. If I can spare the cash I might go straight to propane but I need some guidance as to the best setup for offroad use.
