I just ordered the bellhousing adapter from small car performance for my subby swap. Just wondering if anyone is using it and if so how they like it. Thanks

Just curious for future reference. Wondering what advantages of using bellhousing adaptor. Starter clutch and pressure plate can all be subaru? Is this the way I need to go if I go suby? I want to jump to the 200 hp range when my saturn engine dies and just trying to learn.

The Bellhousing eliminates additional bolting surface that makes it stronger. It also drops the weight and pushs the motor foward 5/8". May not be much however weight distribution is Important. Becides using the Inexpensive Subaru starter, there are lite weight high performance clutch and pressure plates able to handle 500 HP + avalable for the Subaru setup. The VW pressure plate for the conversion is way to heavy in my opinon.

Got the new bellhousing adapter Friday. Here are some pics of it and the old housing. I had a 3 rib bell housing on the wb tranny that I have been running for the last 3 years. I also took a pic of a stock wb tranny and bell housing.

I really wish I had that in my car. It would solve a few problems like weak clutch and starters.

I found a website that is selling a input shaft for the wb tranny that is splined for the subaru clutch disc. Was thinking about looking into getting that also. http://www.rjes.com/index.html

Yes, you do. I was thinking I would be able to get a better disk if I changed the input shaft and switched to the subaru disk.

could you drill and tap them two solid studs sticking out on the top back of the bell housing and make a hanging bracket to help support it like the 6 ribs.and by the way that is an awsome looking truck in the back ground.chad

Maybe I am looking at this wrong but the cost difference is pretty large. At least in my case...

I can buy an adapter plate and flywheel much cheeper than the bell housing kit. In addition, I already have a VW starter, clutch and pressure plate. I would only guess I would need to drop another $600 on a Subi Flywheel, clutch, starter and pressure plate.

Am I being too cheap on this conversion?

Bottom Line for me $450 for Adapter plate or $1200 for the Bell housing (600 kit and 600 for everything else)

The suby bell housing is ideal if you have all the suby stuff,,,and the KEP adapter is ideal if you have all the vw stuff. The bell housing makes the conversion a little shorter,,,something like 5/8" . The adapter is simpler,,,and cheaper,,,, The bell housing is prettier

I bought a 1999 subi for 350.00 that would not stay running. I bought a mass air flow off ebay for 84.00 and fixed it. I then sold that subi for 1200.00 I then bought a 1996 subi for 300.00 and pulled the engine, wiring harness, ecu, flywheel, clutch, and starter. Scraped the subi for a 100.00. Then bought the bell housing for 600.00, the fuel well for 50.00 and had Delta cams grind the cams for 168.00. So I have 252.00 in my subi swap so far.

any lawnmower that does 40mph and has a leather seat and can pull wheelies is well worth loving.my freind owns a bunch of cemeterys and funeral home and he has them and they are bad ass machines.chad
