Hey everyone I recently just totalled out my 2001 dodge durango r/t with a 5.9 liter 360 engine,245hp, which is the only thing left good on the vehicle. I was wanting to take the motor out, put a carb on it and try to fit in in the back of my railbuggy. My buggy supposively has a bus transmission but I dunno what size or know how to tell the difference in the trannys. Will a standard bus tranny hold up to this much horsepower or whats the best drivetrain configuration for this application??? Another problem im having is finding out if the 5.7 or 6.1 liter hemi that kennedys produces a adapter plate, has the same bolt pattern as my 5.9. Thxs in advance and any info is greatly appreciated!!!

With that much horsepower you will definitly need a built bus tranny

I'm still fairly green, but sounds like the only Buggy setup that will work(well) with that 5.9 is a chaindrive.

Or,,use it as midengine ,,possibly mating it to a powerglide and indepentent rear end,,this set up is proving to work very well 8)

The mid engine setup sounds alright but with that setup it will be a little to long for a woods buggy, So yea, it looks like more trouble than its really worth, I believe Ill stick with finding another project for the motor/trans setup and simply build my vw engine. thaxs for everything in advance. A buddy of mine roy did some kind of front wheel drive tranny with a V-6. The problem he had was the differential in it. cutter would only work one way. Something to look into b4 spending a ton of time and money fabricating.

Yea this idea is being dumped, I just bought a single seater with a fuel injected Yoter 1.8l, bus tranny/axles, 4 wheels disks, longtravel and all, used to be raced on a motorcross style track, im bolting up a set of mudders and converting to a woodsbuggy, at one heck of a deal. Ill post pics as soon as I get back from up north with it. Hopefully Ill be able to join some events with you guys in the near future. and may be posting my old rail for sale along with a 65 vw bug in mint condition once I get finished with the paint. Thxs for all the help with the old 360 ideas

i assume the 360 project got dumped, but for arguements sake couldn't a person run the 360 with the stock tranny, and transfercase running to the front diff only ?
