I think a shroud is recommended,,,also if you are running an automatic tranny,,,additional trans oil cooler.

get you some fans out of a ford touras v6. they have dual fans with high speed motors. they just mount on the radiator the shroud is built into the fan setup. i used to run that setup on my v6 rock crawler works real good. 20.00 at junk yard.

Are the fans pushers or pullers? I had a problem like this before, my fans were pushing not pulling. I switched them to pullers and had no problems since.

Gizmo, I got a big single electric fan assembly (shroud, fan, motor) out of a late model sumthin or other I worked on. Cant remember what I took it out of but it looks just like the ones they use in v6 and v8 mustangs and those work great for street n strip cars with healthy motors in them.
You want me to bring it down Easter weekend? I'll trade you for a night's worth of campin!
:D

This what I did with mine. I had to offset the fan due to Turbo tubing clearence however when the fan is running it pulls from the entire radiater surface.

Ah! you got to use the 4 mounting boss's on yours. I could not use mine because the outlets needed to face the front of the Buggy, however they came in handy for mounting the top gromments to mount the Radiater.

Heating up your gas tank is prob not good. I mounted mine up like this. Put the gas tank first then the rad so its pulling the hot air away from the rad and also blowing air over the engine.

A proper fan shroud will make all the differance.
Don't change the thermostat to 160. It will shorten the dwell time of the coolent in the radiator, read not get cool enough.
Was it overheating, boiling over or percolating or was the temp guage just saying it was getting warm?
I dumped a ton of $$ into a 1968 Camaro to keep it cool because the temp guage said it was getting hot all the time, 220-230 deg. The real problem was the top of the line Sun temp guage I was using was NFG. It read 20 to 30 deg too hot all the time.
Food for thought
