Im looking to replace my Stock VW engine and I'm thinking of going Water Cooled. what I'm wondering is what you think is a god WC engine to put on a VW transaxle with either an adapter kit or directly (if possible). Im leaning toward honda/acura because of the availability and how cheap they are, im jus looking for suggestions or your experiences. Thanks |

If you go Honda 4 cyl it will have to be a 2006 or newer k series. Everything prior rotates the wrong way for a vw transaxle. Kennedey engineering makes adapters for about anything you can think of for a vw transaxle. I went and bought a s/c lsj cobalt motor for my conversion. They are not real cheap but they make big horse power. And you can do this conversion for less than a built stroker vw. |

Rock, only problem with GM stuff is it's all cast iron blocks. REAL haevy My idea of the BEST motor would be an all aluminum Donaldson 350/400 block Crowler ultra-light crank and rods, Aries pistons, Jessel, Cloyes, Brodex -12 heads, Vertex mag, dry sump somewhere around 750 Hp. Mid engine to a Toranado trans. Since that's not gonna happen, Subaru is the way to go. No matter which way you go, If it's not all aluminum I wouldn't even consider it. |

I'll second rockrockets1's reply. Picked me up a Jasper rebuilt 2.8 efi with all parts, pieces, and anything else I want from the S10 donor truck for $300. Near as I can figure, its about the same as having a 3rd person riding in the buggy. Weight is about 340-350 #. Anything close to having all aluminum block here in this area was $700 or more, not including the wiring harness, sensors, or anything else one would need. My $0.02. |
