I will never go water cooled again with a heavy water cooled motor unless at least a foot of baby chains was added. It makes ALL the difference ! gearing, center of gravity, and some added hiegth.But narrow is very important too because too wide will make the buggy pull lt n rt depending on which side is biting, and there is not enough side to side room on most hill climbs. Sometimes you will be so wide that you HAVE to hit an obstical coming at you.

Sorry passat have to totally disagree with you. I think I finally have the gearing and weight distribution figured out. You don't need baby chains or turning the motor sideways to get it to work. Just proper weight positioning, the right gear for the hp, some longer trailing arms, the right driver and it works.

Pretty much this, most of your american buggies have HUUUGE arses.
I was going to draw a comparison but I can't think of one....honest :wink:

The cars I owned previous to my limo were cab forward designs which shifted the center of gravity forward. My next contraption has a 4 cyl. Honda V tec automatic sitting exactly where a vw ac goes but sideways. then some short chains that connect to the existing inner c/v joints.Gear reduction with an automatic.nice!!

And I know a couple 2 seat na ecotec buggies that do awesome. I honestly believe my buggy will compete with some of the baddest ac buggies out there now. The 2.4 LE5 Ecotec weighs in at 278 lbs fully dressed. If you're looking for fantastic P/W ratios - check out the 2.0/2.2/2.4. Shaun

I roughly weighed the sc 2.0 and it weighed a bit more than that BUT!!!!!! I AGREE WITH TERRY i believe you can get the balence by building the chassis around the motor.my biggest question is if the tranny will hold up to my heavy right foot.we`ll see next year.
