Steve, that exhaust is gonna make lots of folks look twice. :? . I use a Beetle automatic starter from Orielly's (lifetime guarantee) to start my EJ22 :D

I have one from my old car but dont you have to use the five rib bell? Cant you machine the starter flange?

I used my old 3 rib bell housing. I have heard of machining the 6 rib bell housing to accept the beetle starter. Curt knows how to make a Rabb

Do you have the old high toruqe? I would likt to try to adapt the stock suby starter with the aftermarket one. I would also like to find outwhat needs to done to put the deisel one in. Isnt there a diesel vanagon? Thats probly the starter.

I dropped the old hi-torque off and a starter rebuilding shop and they couldn't find parts to fix it. WhenI went to get it back it couldn't be found. sorry :?

Yeah, Kennedy makes an adapter that you bolt on to a certain model of the diesel rabbit starter that makes it fit the 3-rib bellhousing ($45, I think).

Supposedly the starter lasts forever, turns quick, and is made to turn over high-compression diesel's so it'll turn over even V-8's. On top of that, the starters are cheaper than hi-torque vw starters (get one at autozone, and if it ever fails, trade it in for a new one).
