Hey all I just picked up a 4 seater buggy that as a 2.3 ford FI, Had I am not real familiar with the 2.3. Anyway I am having a issue with it falling on its face, At the low end it runs fine takes off great then about 2500-3000 grand it stops pulling more of less falls on its face, I also took some pics of a few parts that I have no clue were they should be mounted or if they have anything to do with the way it runs.

BTW is a 87 2.3 out of a ranger, If there is any body that as a buggy with a 2.3 or as that could help or suggest things I need by all means do so, Thanks |

I believe that first part is the IAC. It's basically a cold start enrichment part. If you can feather the throttle and baby it cold you won't need it. |

OR..put a fuel pressure gauge on yer fuel rail. may be a weak pump, kinky hose lol, dirty fuel filter, old gas, etc. my Passat will act up if it falls below 35 psi.? Or do you have an old MAP sensor? Manifold Air Pressure. Do you use the old MAP sensor? |

gonna be a fuel issue most likely. does it rev up past 3000 in neutral or is your problem only under load? what are you using as a fuel pump? |

I think it might have something to do with the fuel pressure, Not sure yet cause I need a gauge to check it, but I did unhook the vacuum line running to the regulator and no change in the way it revs acts the same hook up and un hooked, In the pic I posted I think I found out what it is Air idle Control Valve? Not sure trying to locate a pic of how it would have hooked up when it was in the ranger cause now it does not seem right at all, I do know if I unhook it the engine dies right now |

It does rev past 3000 in neutral but not all the time, as far as the fuel pump I am not sure it look like a stock inline pump, I have thought about just buying a new FP just so I know I have a good one plus I would like one that I can run AN-6 fitting |

the fuel pump on a late 80's ranger is an in tank pump so your pump is not stock. pick up a fuel pressure gauge and check it should be around 30-35 idle and about 40 with wide open throttle (or vacumn disconnected from regulator) does it pop through the intake when its struggling that's a sure sign of fuel starvation. |

oh and if your engine is idling fine and dies when you disco the idle air control then its fine and hooked up properly but I would certainly recommend a filter over the hole. |

Yes it dies as soon as I un plug the IAC, Yeah the guy that own this for me just had it siting up by the throttle body, |

Ok checked fuel pressure today and at idle its 32psi and wide open its 40, just like it should be, I took a little vid, now I just need to figure out how to load it on here |

sounds like the exhaust is restricted. un bolt everything from the manifold see what happens. |

Dude that's funny I just said something to the wife about how it does not even sound the same any more, I never thought to check the damn exhaust, So I went over and cut it off and BINGO Runs like a champ, Thanks for the help |
