Post subject:  a heavy question ?
Ok i was reading back aways though all the subaru question before i ask any (the wiring will slow me down some but i think i could do it with just experience and some time if i hadent fond it) however i came up with a question about the weight of a soob. i came across this;

Really a ecotec is only 30 lb lighter?
Than 2.3 then whats a soobi weigh?
My lil street/race car is a lil 450hp pinto turbo 2.3

Also my best rail ive had was a n/a 2.3 ~220hp
But it was a fugitve frame i could grab and carry it around. my new frame is a mesa and have some one give me a hand when i move it is that just age setting in or do i have a much heavier frame?

wow. these stats don't seem right but if they are, they need motor fwd, trailing arms back, like both of my w/c's. With a boat anchor hanging off the back , does not that hurt steering grip? Oh yes! I used to wear my cut brake out fighting to go up a hill. Now it's just point and go. The same goes for too wide in the rear with w/c. Y'all think about it... The buggy already don't want to GO with the extra 200 lbs., now the wheels stuck way out want to take turns pushing. Nobody has wasted more time and money, and relationship and job interference than I have, modifying w/c's to make them do right. Y'all w/c boys know as well as I do, just b4 you reach that vertical tip of a cliff you have to let off the gas and depend on your momentum. That's when you really wish the core weight of your motor was down low like an a/c. When that boat anchor weight hits the cliff at 25 mph it HAS to be leveraging the front end up. And more gas makes you flip over backwards, So your hp has to go from 200 to 0, JUST WHEN YOU REALLY NEED IT THE MOST! Yall seen the Passat vid last week on pg. 5 of RIDING SATURDAY. It's just point and go. No worry of un commanded wheelies, or steering, AND uses every obstacle for traction. It actually gets better traction the steeper.

Me and a buddy can pick my Subaru eng up pretty easy does not feel much heavier than a vw eng. You send the cams to delta for a regrind cost 200 bucks and flash the computer you will make 200 hp easy. The good thing about a subie easy to rebuild. It's just like a vw. The center of gravity is way better than a ecotec and no I'm not knocking the ecotec cause I am a Chevy guy but you probably need a longer trailing arm to help plant the hp. I like ac, and wc. The wiring is not bad at all on the subie I can upload pics. If I had a lot of money I would have a big stroker motor like my old man nothing like the sound of a vw.

I know a lot of guys talk about going wc yes it's cheaper easy hp and I haven't been in the woods that long guys but been drag racing a long time but the thing is if you go from a 1915 to a big wc eng it's what's around that motor that will cost you. Better have a good transmission with a weddle gear set of you are looking for trouble your looking at 1800 bucks prob on a deal if you have to find a five or six rib and have it built, axles, it is whats around any motor that makes any size motor small or big to eat some hills up

I"m sure there is at least 40 more lbs of incidentals Sandbar. 8) ext manifold, alternator computer and harness belts and tensioner, motor mts, a bucket of bolts and clamps, kennedy adapter kit. 8+ lbs per gal of water x 3.5gals =30 right there. 1.25 gals(5 quarts) of oil may be 9 lbs..

I have that quad4 anchor, sounds right. I'ts a 2.3l. Ecos are 2.0, 2.2, 2.4

I listed the items that i weigh. The engine, exhaust manifold, flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disk bolts and adaptor plate weight is 305 lbs. on our scales at work. It should be close as our scales a calibrated every mo.
If you want to include the radiator and fans that added 16-1/2 more lbs.
I don't know how much water is in the rad. but it is full.
I didn't weight all the other stuff either (hoses, clamps, belt, ecu, harness, over flow, air filter, muffler)
Yes, using a wc motor is heaver than an ac motor. I went this rout cause its stock 165 hp that I can beat on all day and then do it again the next day and the next day so on and so on.
Its probably not the best hill buggy but I'm not worry about that here in Fl.
I'm happy with the weight sacrifice.
If I was going to build a ground up buggy, I would go modern engine and trans with baby chains and tall tires.
It would probably be heavy thou, :lol:
