I found a 96 Subaru with a 2.2 for dirt cheap or trade for a go cart I haven't used in years. Would I be wasting my time putting this in my buggy?

How many miles on it? The 1996 2.2 is an interference motor, break the timing belt, it's toast. It's 135 Hp OBD2, plenty of power, good reliable motor.

It has a lot of miles on it. I've replaced 1000s of timing belts in my career so that's not an issue as long as the valves aren't bent now. Guy said it runs so there not bent. I'm not to worried about the mileage cause these motors are dime a dozen at my prices. I mainly just want it for all the other stuff so if the motor goes out I just gotta drop in another one. After selling all my AC stuff this should be a free swap to wc. Is there any difference in the adapter as far as 002 vs 091 other than the hardware. I'd hate to buy an adapter just to have to buy another one when I switch too a 6 rib (when my 3 rib blows)

No difference in the adapter plate. It will fit the 2.0, 2.2L and 2.5L to any VW 002 or 091

My old car had a 2.2 and I loved the torque and mid , it would sing on the rev limiter but didn't make top end IMO . Can't go wrong with them . I will go Ecotech next round though . Had a 6 rib 456 on it

When I did my research on the EJ2.2, EJ2.5 and 2.2 Ecotec, the EJ2.2 was the most reliable of the 3. The EJ2.5 was plagued with head gasket issues and early ecotecs has issues with timing chains and I did not want to spend all that money on harness and computers, the E2.2 was the logical choice for me. Plus I got a great deal on a running subaru for the swap.
