I'm in the middle of converting my Berrien warrior to accept a GM quad 4. These engines aren't the lightest option due to the iron block, but they are tough.

I'm just wondering if it's mandatory to fab up some type of mounts to support the back end of the motor?

I spent the entire day yesterday making some for mine to attach at the end of the block and hang on the horizontal cage hoop.
I just kept picturing going over whoops and that 300lbs being levered up and down on four little bolts in the tranny.

Yet I look at most people's pics and they don't have anything.
Am I over complicating things? Or is everyone else just running engines that are that much lighter than mine?

I always run rear mounts.

Even with an all aluminum engine I run engine mounts. My rear cage is all welded to make a solid mount.

I guess since it's easier to pull the motor right out the top why not weld it all up eh?

those are some classy mounts! I have some open spot to do this on my engine. Perhaps I'll do one side just to counter act any twisty type of movement.

I used the AC compressor mounting holes on the block for motor mounts on one side and the holes from the original mount on the other.

I add a bar above the Trans and ran a plat down to the adapter and used the top mount at the end of the motor been running it 3 years no problems yet.
Used 1/4 it did bend after 2 rides made new one with 3/8 been great since.

Depends what your doing with your buggy and how you run it but a hanging style mount is Probly the best way to go. If you hit your rear skid or lower cage hard enough you could break the block. I've only seen it happen to one bit it's always possible
