Love it, bet start saving for a mendiola so you can use all of it. 3 rib should work just fine though  Oh and I assume thats not on a single seater

trans is a 5 rib the buggy is a 4 seater the 5.3 makes about 280 hp the extra weight of the engine is not that big of a concern cosidering the wheel base and having two adults setting where the pedals would be in a 2 seateradds weight to the front end.

i wanted something to power my buggy that i could just leave in second and not have to shift all the and with 320 ft lbs at 4400 rpm's i dont have to turn it 8000 rpm's to be in the powerband

As long as the Trans holds up sounds like a winning plan.

So, if I see some comets, they're bits of your gearbox travelling through the atmosphere?

280 hp + 320 torque + 2800 lbs of buggy and people = broken stock 5 rib trans just my opinion

Chad go to pics and vids and look for the how to post from photobucket thread. I thin it says what size to set the pics. Get in it and ride and have fun. Just save up a little for a stronger trans for the near future.

i think a cool swap would be to take the trans out of a fwd 70's cadillac and put it in a mid engine configuration with or without chain drive.how awesome would an automatic buggy be with the trans strength of a 400 turbo.alot of people are putting this set up in fieros

This has already been done in a woods buggy and was found to be a major disaster. The good looking car at the very top of the page had a 400ci with a caddy trans the gearing was way off for the woods and the weight was way wrong for a rear engine, just plane didn't work. Don't know why your willing to go through so much work and expense to cause yourself more work and expense? 280 hp is right at the MAX that a BUILT 6 rib can can hold up to on the street and in my opinion it is over the max in the woods. There is no room for error when you push it that close and you WILL break parts. I know you said as long as the wife and kiddies are along for the ride you can behave. Guess what, they are not going to be along for every ride and with that much hp you will not be able to behave for long. Sometimes too much is way too much.
Good luck in what ever you do.

Look into doing the baby chains like Firebug does. I think it added 12" of length and gave him a 1.5:1 reduction. Or an all out chain drive but that is alot of mods on a completed buggy.

You really think you could baby a corvette buggy, lol.first thing your gonna do is back it out of the garage and dump the clutch :D you are gonna need to build a tranny that can handle that motor.but it does look wicked with those headers sticking out like that.good luck, post a video of that thing running.Chad
