Who re mapped the ecm. And check for a vacuum leak.Sounds like a vacuum leak to me

There is a vac hose behind the oil filter cap also one above the TB. You may want to check your fuel psi it maybe falling off some.

Terry I took the ecm to Phil's bug shack. Also I plugged 3 vacuum ports. Behind the oil filter, behind the throttle body, and on the valve cover. I tried to check the fuel pressure but the adapter i have for the fuel rail isn't pushing in the valve to get a reading, I'll have to find one tomorrow.

Call Phil and ask him if Phil Smith did it. If so it's right. And if he did it and u have all your vacuum plugged it is a bad sensor, crossed wiring, or like bluebuggy said fuel pressure.
Are u running a high pressure filter?
And did u put a plug in to hook it up to a computer. If so put it on a trailer and take it to advance and have them hook it up and check it.

I checked the fuel pressure 55 psi steady also checked the tps, its getting correct voltage from the ecm. But when I checked ohm's on the sensor it was everywhere. also got a high pressure filter on it. Forgot to tell you eariler it dont have an exhaust on it either could this part of the problem?

Hmmmm, no exhaust, I assume no O2 sensor then? Lol, or whichever one is on my exhaust.

Post subject:  Re: ecotec trouble

the O2 is in the manifold. But it may not be reading because there is no restriction on the exhaust.

Post subject:  Re: ecotec trouble

That's probably your problem put the exhaust on and hook up the o2 sensor

Post subject:  Re: ecotec trouble

sounds like a mass air flow sensor to me unplug it and see if it runs better.

Its been a busy weekend not had a chance to work on it. I will try to get my exhaust on and try the things you all have mentioned. I'll keep you guys posted on what I find. Thanks for the help.

Got a vr6 Passat motor from the Junk yard cheap. It would do exactly what yours is doing. Turned out it had jumped time a tooth.Align the grooves on the cams then turn the motor over 4 turns and see if they are still looking at each other. You don't have to pull the flywheel off to time it (that is if you have a chain on the flywheel side of the motor)( I don't know what an eco has). On my motor you have to guess + or - 2 teeth to get it to rotate 4 revs and still have cam slots still looking at each other.ONE tooth off makes a whole new monster. Some of you may have witnessed me last spring at Choccollocco limping around with fuel loading up and no power, but a smooth idle and easy start up.Don't rely on an uneven compression check to give you a hint.

good point he would have to have a part before it was bad huh? if no MAF then your load signal comes from the MAP sensor make sure its plugged in and has good vacumn

Don't know about ecotecs, but the other day I was cranking my Van with the suby engine, and it backfired, weak battery didn't turn it completely over, thus it back fired through the throttle body.
Any how it was doing exactly as you describe, turns out when it backfired the piping from throttle body to air filter, air flow sensor had popped loose.
Clamped it better this time ,runs like a champ.

I appologize. Reading it I thought the motor had both map and maf.
