Bought this 1986 Syncro Vanagon [4wd] in 2002 from a preacher, who really broke it off in me.
So this spring I finally rebuilt the tranny and converted it to a 2.2 subaru engine.
It's a 100 mph van now and drives like a dream and tows really strong.
Also the back lays flat to make a queen size bed.
The maiden voyage was a trip to Robbinsville over the foothills parkway and through the Tail of the Dragon [US129], it pulled the parkway and most of the dragon in 3rd and 4th gear.
I really really like this thing.

I had already partially built the cooling system, when I saw your way of doing it.
Your way would have been alot simpler.

Here is the engine bay.
I'll get a video soon of it going through the gears, thus far without hitting the rev limiter it does 45mph in second and 70mph in third.

I've still some tiding up to do,like actually mounting the air box, plumbing the power steering, convert suby air conditioning to vw and fixing some hose guides.
Right now it is one of the smoothest driving vehicles I've ever owned.
Also I refilled the gas tank after driving 260 miles 11.5 gal. 22.6 mpg and 180 miles of that was towing the rzr.

Hey Bill:

So you finally got it going, looks good! Did you guys get rained on at Squally? We had a great two days at Windrock but left early Saturday because of the rain.

Love the new rig.

We are riding at Callente this weekend, come on up (call me).

It rained, hailed, and did everything but snow.
On a side note Jeff went fishing, while we were fixing breakfast Sunday morning and came back with a 100lb wild boar,he now has a cooler full of ribs, hams, etc.
Lucky for him he had his pistol, he dropped off the road down to a bluff overlooking the creek, he accidently cornered the pig on the bluff and it charged him.
