Not really a watercooled question but more of an adapter plate question. I am considering starting a new project of a VW based ratrod but I want to put the engine in the front (just to be different, and I think it would look cool with velocity stacks sticking out either side of the hood :) ) I would like to run an old chevy 4 spd and probably a sami rear axle mostly because I have access to tons of both.

The question is... can I take an adapter plate for mounting a chevy v6 or v8 to a vw based trans and reverse that to mount a vw engine to a chevy bellhousing? And if not does anyone know of a way to do this?

Sorry in advance if its a really stupid question, but I have some ideas in my head and just trying to see if it can be done before laying out any cash

Thanks

I bet the chevy has some tall gears. Those dream projects can take away enormous amounts of family time and family money. I should know. :( Educate yourself get a good job pay off your house and retire early. And don't look like you are 70 when you are 50.

If I am reading correctly, I think you want to use a VW tranny mounted forward. I am not an expert but I think you will have 4reverse gears and 1 forward gear.

NO I think he wants to run a 4 spd chevy transmission.

To answer the question about the adapter plate, Yes the same one for putting a chevy engine on a VW trans will mate a VW engine to a chevy trans. Thats how a friend of mine mated his VWengine to a powerglide trans in a dragster.

That bug rock crawler was also 4wd, and was featured in Hot VW's a whle back. It was pretty cool.
