Time for more power! I ported the heads, and matched the inake manifolds. Plan on bumping the compression up to around 12.5:1, 3 angle valve job, and cams. I hope to get in the 220HP range (not sure why though, my trans can't even handle 170HP on the track)   porting done  crank needs to be repolished

Are you changing pistons,,or getting the compression boost from the combustion chamber. or both? |

The custom pistons would be cheaper, but I doubt you want high compression. |

Horsepower is in the heads, so a good port job will yield some nice ponys. Stock compression is already at 10:1. Mike, Not sure how high of a compression can be done using the stock ECUs fuel curve and antiknock program. Nick 12:1 puts you into 110 Octane I assume. Fortunatley you have a stand alone ECU so you can set it up to compensate.. |

I just did the math, and I'm already at 11.5:1 cr. I am also already running race fuel due to the advanced ignition so that wont be too big of a deal. |

looks like I was wrong on the CR. I forgot to add in the dish on the piston. It is 10.6:1 cr.

I suppose flow is the way to go. I think there are some aftermarket cam grinds available,,,maybe the airplane guys have them,,,also there were some timing changes made with cam sprockets seems like,,,or just add powermakers like turbo, nitrous,,etc,,,or just add 2 more cylinders but don't forget to check the oil

I sent my cams out to Web-cam to get welded/reground. They called me last night and asked what kind of cams I had. I told them that to the best of my knowledge they are stock. They told me standard subaru cams had .323 lift, and mine have .373 lift. My exhaust cams have a big lobe and a little lobe. They are going to make the little one the same as the big one. Man I wish I could just throw a couple type 1 cams in this thing, its gettin pricey! |

I picked the cams up from Drews this weekend, need to get a pilot so we (hyde) can get the valve job done, then I can order pistons. Cams look good, I went with a "quick ramp" style with big lift and short duration. People like to complain about how expensive it is to build the old type 1's, I wish thats all this costs! the days of $65-70 dollar cams is over! |

 hers a pic of the variable cam pulleys guts. I got the crank back from being polished. Kevin did a hell of a job fixin my port job up! just waitin for the pilot for the valve machine so we can cut the seats, and then I can get moving on the custom pistons

Its about time I knock the dust off this project! Cleaned abunch of the parts up again this weekend. I plastigauged the mains and rods. Had .003 across the board. I might get another set of rod bearings so I can try to knock it down .0005 or so. I cant wait to see how much fun it is going to be to put it back together after its been apart for 3 years!

The heads look great I think I'm in the same area as you. I have the 2.5 subie motor sohc. I'm putting my short block together tomorrow. But went with stock forged pistons and scatt rods. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk |
