My heater hose is a loop to allow circulation...I also bypassed the throttle body, , this hose also is a loop to allow a cooler throttle body. My first suby engine,,,an ea81 has the thermostat in the top hose (same radiator). I think the thermostat in the bottom is fine for grocery getters. It is the continuous high revs that overcome the cooling system with the thermostat on the bottom.

I see. I misunderstood the discussion, and thought you had it blocked off.

The EAs didn't need revs to overheat

Plenty of EJs see high revs without overheating. I tracked my EJ22 wagon many times with an EA82 radiator. Even our built STi rally car did just fine with the stock system. We are running an aftermarket radiator now, but only because the stupid plastic endtanks cracked

Whatever the reason. It's a cool idea, and if it's working, than good work!

So far with some hi revs and bumps, the temp stays at 180-190 with a 170 thermostat.

I noticed my accusump was slow on cold nights so I made a warmer with my heater loop.
