I called a couple of salvage yards looking for a 2.2 Subaru and they said that the engine with a manual transmission is different than one with a automatic. So what do I need to ask for? I am new to the suby thing and don't have a clue. Any advice would be helpful.

mine is out of a automatic, and nothing diff about the engine, either one is fine, the wireing harness maybe different but your harness has to be wired anyway, firebug did my wireing harness

somewhere I read that the manual is preferred for the harness and sensors,, but I dont think it matters all that much,,,all my 3.3 engines are auto.I can help you do a obd1 harness.

newer cars (2000ish+) did have the timing belt guide, and a different EGR setup. and wiring is a bit different.

in the '90-94 OBD I ones though. Engine and ECU are identical. wiring is only a little different.
