I was exploring a Subaru engine option when lo and behold, I saw an '82 Rabbit sitting down the road that has a 1.6L diesel. I looked it over and my wheels got to turning, I wonder if this will bolt up to the 3-rib on my buggy? It seems to me that the wiring harness would be much less complicated than a subaru and even though I would have to make some mods it might work. The big thing is the bolt pattern.

Now before I hear about the bad points of a diesel, let me point out that i'm not into speed. I like to get where i'm going efficiently, if slowly and a diesel has more low-end torque than my '70 model 1600. Logs better too. And it also takes fire out of the ignition triangle.

So am I crazy?

I think there is a certain bell housing that you can swap to make it work. I would like to see how it works for you,,,good luck.

I still have those bellhousings for$100.I removed a jetta fwd trans last week and had to leave behind a NICE 1.9 turbo diesel .It's gone now but something like that would be nice.
