all of you guys from west virginia must be a buch of sissies, all of my kinfolk down in west virginia are the same way. hell, i used to raise snakes when i was a kid. it wasn't too long ago, steve aka wreckincars had a big old black snake in his camper, the best part about that, the snake ate all of the mice. and if you think about it, a snake would be better than a watch dog, because if you tie him to the front porch, aint nobody gonna break in.

That black snake in my camper was honestly 5 1/2 feet long, With all the mice that were in my camper it must have been a f'in feast for that snake. He worked ten times better than decon or any mouse trap. He was fairly friendly too. I picked him up and showed him to everybody around camp.
Like afterburnt, I had a few pet snakes over the years. There are kinda boring most of the time but it's cool to feed them. I don't understand the big fear of all snakes.
However a few pointers:
Snakes can strike up to a distance of two thirds there body length.
When they strike they are really really fast. Faster than you, I promise.
Their vision isn't real good, they see mostly in infra red, so they just see your heat signature, kinda like those things in Tremors 2 So if confronted by one and you don't have your trusty shotgun, throwing a jacket over them will pretty much blind them. Don't try and pick it up though.
They really are more scared of you than you are of them, well unless your a wuss.
Also copperheads and rattlers have a diamond shaped head and other non poisonous ones in this area of the country have a strait head.
Also (here's a big one) black snakes are know to prey on copperheads. So if you have black snakes around you are probably safe
But if that snake in the pic was near were my kids played I would probably kill it just to be safe.
One more thing:
Dave how are you gonna tie up the snake?
