Ok, This crap is really cutting into my buggy time & it's getting old... Quick! Has anyone ever suffered from sciatica? (pinched sciatic nerve?) And if so, how long did it take before you were back in the buggy again? The doctors tell me 6 to 8 weeks to start feeling better, then another 6 or more before I can do anything fun again. I'm going on 8 weeks now and tramadol is still my best friend. I won't get into the pain and how I whine like a little schoolgirl sometimes, but if you've ever had it I'm sure you know what I mean. I'm trying to get an idea of how much downtime I'm looking at... I've never had a back pain in my life before this. Luckily I don't think the buggy is the cause of the problem. I believe the culprit was me lifting something I should have never lifted by myself. I have been shopping for suspension seats though... Can't hurt right? I mean, I want to take some precautions so when I'm able to get back in the buggy it will be less likely to beat me up. So are suspension seats really worth the money? My butt has never been graced with one so I have no idea. I'm sure you get what you pay for in seats, but my budget is steering me towards the cheaper Race Trim seats. Anybody have any opinions on these? I'm not a little feller, so I'm sure the wide seats are the way to go. I think they'll fit in a Bee-line frame especially since my cut brakes aren't located between the seats. Opinions? Headroom is my biggest concern. How's the seat height compared to poly seats? I don't have a lot of headroom now, but I'm hoping to re-roof my buggy within the next year... Budget permitting of course. I want to be able to still ride between upgrades you know... One step at a time. Thanks! I'll appreciate any and all input. |

i have a set of race trim suspension seat sitting in my shop floor never been put in a buggy,the bug shop where i bought them said they was the same height as a poly seat,my seats are tweed gray i think,i would sell them but dont know how much shipping would be. |

Thanks Chris, I'm already working out a deal on a set of seats, but nothing is final. I might be interested in your seats if this deal falls through. You can't be too far from me, so I ain't worried about shipping. I should know something in the next few days. Have you used the race trim seats before? Anyone have any input on them? |

I have Race trim seats in my Buggy. They are much more confortable than the standard Poly with padded covers. Thats the good. The bad is and Im sure its that way with others like Beard is they use foam padding and when it gets wet it really gets wet. Can you say "Sponge". My seats have not been dry since the first ride. I try to press out as much water as possiabe however it does not help much. I am not aware of any water proof covers specifically for the Race trim seat. Also they are on the narrow side so if your a big guy I would look into the Beard seat. There standard Baha is 23" and the extra wide is I believe 25". DVs1 can shed some light on those. He did have to widen his frame to use them however. |

Odyknuck's right. I did have to widen my frame and lower the floor to get the Corbeau Ultra SS "fat man friendly" seats in, but it was worth every second of time I put in to modifying the frame. Once you try suspension seats you will think the same thing. For an all day ride my butt and back don't hurt. Just so you know I have a 38'' waist and the Baja SS fit but I liked the two slots for the harnesses in the Ultra SS. And Odyknuck, check out the Corbeau Trojan Seat Saver, it should work for your seats. |

Another thing I think helps is laying your seats back. My seats are layed way back and i love it. I think it spreads the load out over your whole body, where as when there standing up the shock has to go from your butt up your back even with susp. seats. But i do love my beard seats. |

I have Beard seats AND a bad back. When my Sciatica went fighting a fire, I was on my back for 17 days, no work, nothing. It was 3 months before I could do things normally (not that I ever did normal things) When I was mocking up my seats in the chassis I fell asleep sitting in it. As far as riding goes I wouldn't have any other seat. As far as comfort goes I'm not sure what I like best, my seats or my power steering. |

Cool, thanks for the good info guys. What about the full vinyl seats? They have the vinyl insert instead of tweed. Looks like they'd have to stay drier. They may be hotter to sit in, but easier to clean too... I'm still leaning towards the race trims. For under $300 for 2 plus shipping(?) and you pretty much get any seat you choose. I'm 5-9 w/ a 34" waist so I'm thinking definitely the wide model, but what about the highback or lowback? I was thinking highback at first, but Race trim has the lowback with an adjustable headrest that looks pretty cool. It does away with the top slots for the shoulder belts too. That's one place on my current poly seats where the belts never want to lay right. I've also seen some disposable seat covers at walmart I think. They're camo, but they just slip over and would probably last a ride or 2...? |

I too am going to replace my seats. Race Trim seats are made by EMPI. I am going for the 62-2795 all vinyl version on this page. http://www.empius.com/2008_catalog/empi2008_pg282.html Fortunately I have a lot of headroom.  Someone mentioned laying the seat back a bit. I think that is very important for a comfortable and a bit safer ride. |

Yeah, they are empi and they are becoming available everywhere. I still like the wide low-back w/ headrests #62-2768 all vinyl. I also agree with laying them back. I laid my polys back by lifting the front 1.5" and it was a good change. I'm sure these would have similar results. Not at too bad a rate but from me to you would be the kicker. UPS would murder us on shipping, I don't send enough by truck to get a deal either. Anyone closer might be able to help you? Steve, I got the smaller Race Trim seat in my buggy, and I'm fatter'n you and got plenty of room in the seat. Mine is all vinyl and it gets soaked when I wash my buggy and its always dry by the next ride, which sometimes is only two weeks. I kinda like a seat to hug you a little but anyways, it feels more secure to me. The smaller ones will be easier to fit in your buggy. Larry |

Cool, good to know! I like your seat, but never looked at it really close. Besides, I figured you had a Beard or one of them other high-roller options... lol. I was having a hard time measuring my butt over the weekend. Every time I backed up to the mirror, the numbers on my tape measure were backwards... making it hard to read. I just thought maybe my ass was metric or something... |

My beard seats are all vinyl and I love them they are easier on the back , they are EASY to clean and if it rains they don't stay wet all weekend like the cloth ones . |
